The Lactic and Glycolic peels are very similar in their actions, but the molecules are slightly different.  A good rule of thumb is the pure Lactic is best for treating age/sun spots and the pure Glycolic is best for treating fine lines. The Glyco/Lac combination is great if you are looking for a revitalizing improvement in tone and texture.

Glycolic Acid is the most active and beneficial of the Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHA) in skin care and is made from sugar canes. It is the only AHA which is able to penetrate through the cell walls by virtue of its small molecular size. Once inside the cell, it will trigger new formation of collagen and turn on the synthesis of dermal glycosaminoglycan’s to plump up the cell and the ground substances in the skin to reduce wrinkles on the skins surface. Glycolic Acid also affects the newly forming keratin cells at the bottom of the stratum corneum causing the bulk of the stratum corneum to lift off and separate from the underlying skin. This gives the skin a much smoother look and feel. It loosens the thickened surface layers that appear as dry, rough, scaly skin and stimulates the production of collagen in the deeper layers. As the uppermost layers are sloughed away, a smoother textured and healthier skin is revealed. Glycolic peels are used to treat mild sun damage, pigmentation and loss of elasticity.

The Lactic acid is a natural humectant which occurs naturally in the skin, and because of this it is able to pull moisture from the air and hold it in the skin. The Lactic acid is less irritating and more moisturizing than the Glycolic, and the Lactic can be used at a slightly higher concentration than the Glycolic, because it is not as irritating.

The Bottom Line - a Younger, Healthier looking Complexion

Glycolic Acid Chemical Peel removes gray, dead skin cells.

Dead skin cells appear gray, dull and lifeless. They make your skin look dirty. They do not reflect light easily. By removing them with a Glycolic Acid Chemical Peel, your skin's overall appearance will be greatly enhanced. Your skin will have a healthier glow & fine lines and wrinkles will diminish. Your skin will appear softer, smoother and younger. Your skin will look the best it has in years!

How many treatments will I need?
4-6 peels at weekly intervals are recommended for noticeable improvements. More or less may be required depending on the condition being treated, your desired results, the strength of the peels and home skin care regimen.  Once you have achieved your desired results, maintenance peels are recommended at 2-3 monthly intervals combined with a daily AHA skin care regime to retain the benefits.  The ongoing skin care program uses advanced skin care products that contain a therapeutic level of AHA's at an active pH and other active ingredients.

The Procedure
The peel itself only takes between 10-20 minutes.  You will probably experience a tingling, itchy sensation for a few minutes when the peel is applied and the stronger solutions sting a little.

Recovery
Most patients go straight back to their normal activities, although it is best not to apply make-up for around 3 hours.  Some patients find they may experience some redness after the peel (especially those with sensitive skin or having longer/stronger duration peels). After a few days, most patients experience some flaking of the skin, some even have significant skin peeling.  The effectiveness of the peel is not determined by the extent of visible peeling.
